In mid-February, the French company imposed extra charges for worldwide cargo bound to and from Kenya, which saw importers paying $150 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container. Shipping giant CMA CGM has been forced to withdraw an emergency port congestion surcharge in Kenya following protests by the government, manufacturers, and importers.

AEPC said that the production LinkedIn Incentive scheme for human-made fibre and the creation of seven mega textile parks in the country would benefit the production and export of the sector. Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) Chairman A Sakthivel said the MMF garment industry in India is poised for fast growth as the government has agreed to promote the sector.

THE HINDU | Facing a crisis, corrugated box makers seek a ban on kraft paper exports

The South India Corrugated Box Manufacturers’ Association (SICBMA) has requested the Centre to impose an urgent ban on the export of kraft paper in any form. Kraft paper is the main raw material in the production of corrugated boxes. Export of Kraft paper has shrunk the supply by more than 50% in the local market in recent months.

Government-owned Indian Railways has moved empty boxes to inland depots like Delhi from seaports for free. South Korea has deployed an extra nine vessels on the Trans-Pacific route to help local manufacturers. In contrast, China’s state-owned shipyard, Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry, has converted at least one freshly built paper-and-pulp carrier to transport the containers.

MONEY CONTROL | FSSAI may soon begin to set standards for food exports creating single regulator in sector

With the government promoting strict product standards across the board, the charge of framing and executing mandatory standards for all food exports, both packaged and unpackaged, will soon be given to India's Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI), sources told Moneycontrol. The proposal will create a single regulator in the food sector in charge of standards for both inbound and outbound trade and the domestic market.

According to industry participants, India’s palm oil imports are set to rebound in March and April to meet rising demand from hotels and restaurants, as lower shipments last month have depleted stocks. Higher imports by India, the world‘s biggest buyer of edible oil, are likely to support benchmark Malaysian palm oil prices that hit their highest level in a decade on Monday.
