Following the intervention by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, an estimated 40,000 sailors stuck on different ships are permitted to return to the land at the Mumbai port. They will undergo a full medical check-up and be quarantined at a building made available to them for isolation, besides following all other protocols of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Joint Secretary Abhay Damle moved out from his post. Pawan Kumar Agarwal will be replacing N. Sivasailam as new logistics special secretary, Commerce Ministry.

The commerce ministry reduced the import quota for green peas to 75,000 tonnes for 2020-21 and has laid down a procedure for its inbound shipments. According to the DGFT, there is no quota for import of yellow peas for the current fiscal. It said the import would be allowed only to the millers/refiners.

West Asian nations led by Iran have also placed orders for basmati rice, but traders are likely to miss the crucial Ramzan period as it takes 40-45 days to ship the consignments. Iran, China and Russia have placed fresh orders for Indian black tea during the COVID-19 outbreak, a boost for the domestic industry which has incurred losses of about 100 million kg of teas owing to the lockdown.
