Karnataka’s flower is hit by the pandemic. It will need some time to recover even though the domestic market is slowly returning to normalcy after Covid-19 brought the floriculture sector to a complete halt from April to September. Karnataka has 18,000 hectares under floriculture cultivation, (more than 80% of it is open cultivation and the remaining is polyhouse farming), accounting for 14% of India’s total area under flower production, 20% loose and 13% cut flower production.

A Surat-based startup has developed a virtual platform for AEPC, the Apparel Export Promotion Council to help textile exporters exhibit their products for a global audience. The AEPC roped in Surat-based virtual reality company ShilpMIS Technologies Pvt Limited and created a virtual exhibition platform, which was recently inaugurated by the vice-president of India Venkaiah Naidu in the presence of Union minister of textiles Smriti Irani.

Basmati Rice demand from the EU soared over 70% in FY 2020-21. Augmented demand from countries including Belgium, Italy and Netherlands supported the basmati rice industry amid vagueness over export to Iran. This led to an increase in basmati rice prices by 10% in the past two months.

On Saturday, the third leased parcel cargo express train of the Salem division has been flagged off from Vanjipalayam in Tirupur. The train, leased to Viskan Logistics Services Private Limited, has 15 wagons, and it can carry 353 tonnes of commodities.
