Auto component makers are looking to shore up exports and cut down on imports as they seek to reduce vulnerability to currency swings and become self-reliant. Top executives at various auto component firms said exports, which have been intrinsic to the overall strategy, will likely increase at a rapid pace over 2-5 years. These firms, however, will continue to import high volume, low-value parts, as making them in India is financially unviable given higher logistics and power costs.

India is set to maintain sugar export subsidies for a third year in a row in a bid to reduce surplus stocks and ensure domestic prices don't fall below a government benchmark. The subsidies are designed to boost exports from the world's second biggest sugar producer though increased shipments could put further pressure on global prices, which have already fallen more than 10% so far this year. Sugar export incentives for 6 million tonnes could be announced before the end of this month

The Mandatory User Charges is revised to INR 165 per container (subject to tax) effective 05 September 2020, for Chennai ; Kattupalli ; Krishnapatnam ; Cochin ; Visakhapatnam ; Mangalore ; Tuticorin ; Hazira ; Nhava Sheva ; Kolkata ; Haldia and Mundra ports. OOCL has issued a notification regarding this to all their stakeholders.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) recently issued a new Customs Notice 20-28 confirming the timetable for full transition of electronic house bill (eHBL) filing requirements that apply to Freight Forwarders and NVOCC’s. As of November 1, 2020, CBSA will promote the final piece of system enhancements that will enable FF/NVO to submit eHBL for all consolidated shipments.

A new blaze erupted at Beirut port, sparking panic among the citizens of a nation still reeling from the cataclysmic August 4 explosion. After two hours, the army tweeted that the fire had been doused. Units from the Lebanese Army's Independent Works Regiment assisted by Civil Defense members and the Beirut Fire Brigade have managed to extinguish the blaze that broke out at Beirut port in rubble mixed with waste, wood remnants and old tires.

Singapore-based Scoot is removing seats from A320 aircraft for regional freight operations, while SpiceJet has used a reconfigured A340 to fly to Europe and Africa. Traditionally, low-cost carriers (LCCs) have shown scant regard for cargo. Many have not bothered with it at all, lest the loading/unloading disrupt tight turnaround times.

Mol Charisma (voyage 211W), deployed in Pacific South 3 (PS3) service has experienced a fire incident in No.5 Cargo hold on 1st September 2020 at approximately 250 miles east from Colombo, Sri Lanka during her voyage from Port Kelang, Malaysia to Nhava Sheva, India. The fire is under control after discharging CO2 into No.5 Cargo hold and the vessel is currently in Colombo, Sri Lanka, awaiting inspection. All personnel are currently unharmed and there is no pollution reported. Ship’s crew are closely monitoring the situation.

THE DAILY STAR | Trial riverine export route: First shipment on maiden journey to Tripura

The first consignment left Cumilla's Daudkandi after loading 50 tonnes of cement on MV Premier from the factory. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority approved the export of goods on a trial basis through the new waterway. The launching ceremony of cross-border consignment shipment will be held at Sonamura this morning. The cement-carrying ships will cross the border from Daudkandi in Cumilla via Bibirbazar in the same district through the Gumti river. The distance from Daudkandi to Sonamura in Tripura is 93 km. From there the consignment will go by road to Tripura's capital Agartala.
